Theresa May suffers humiliation in Commons

Oh dear, poor Theresa. On the eve of her summit with European Leaders in Brussels, she has been defeated in the House of Commons on the withdrawal bill by 309 to 305 after a rebellion by Stephen Hammond. He has since been sacked as Tory Vice Party Leader. (not before time, treacherous B....)

I hope those gloating Tory pro remaining MP's who have betrayed the party are bloody well de-selected for helping Labour. They have betrayed their own party and the democratic will of the people. They will never be forgiven and people will never forget when the election comes round.

Well this is delegated democracy. We vote for people to make the decisions on our behalf. Thank goodness some of them think the same way as the other half of the country.

Democracy only works for the brexiteers, not for the 16 million who didn't vote for the destruction of our economy.

STEPHEN HAMMOND
DOMINIC GRIEVE
ROBERT NEILL
ANTOINETTE SANBACH
ANNA SOUBRY
SARAH WOLLASTON
NICKY MORGAN
SIR OLIVER HEALD
JOHNATHAN DJANOGLY
JOHN STEVENSON
HEIDI ALLEN
KEN CLARKE

12 Tory MP's, 12 disciples of Labour, whom by voting against their own party, have succeeded in undermining the Prime Minister and their boss. I truly hope they receive the scorn and disgust of the electorate and are punished for their treacherous act.

Heroes IMO and I'm in the electorate too! Time someone elected stuck two fingers up to the shambles.

We vote for people to make the decisions on our behalf in domestic matters only. In a vote such as the recent referendum, the majority will of the people should have been carried out without let or hindrance. I class the people who are trying to derail our exit from the EU kleptocracy as traitors and they should be brought to book in any forthcoming elections.

No Purwell, it does not only work for the brexiteers. It works on the electorate majority, as it has always done in the UK.
It certainly doesn't seem to anymore though when those that we elected don't like the result and feel they have the right to change it. That certainly is not Democracy.

hmm... I think we vote for people to make decisions for us on all matters. Otherwise why would all MPs have a vote on whether we go to war? Where does domestic end and international start? I think there are just as many who don't see them as traitors but as champions. The vote was almost 50:50. It's only because some who have lived here all their lives don't have nationality for whatever reason that it didn't go to an exact split.

But from what I've seen nobody who voted brexit feels the government has handled the process very well thus far. So why shouldn't the whole of parliament be involved in decision making?

That's delegated democracy for you. We the people do not manage the country. Those we elect make the decisions. That's why they often make decisions that don't tie back to what we thought we were voting for. Brexit is no different to most major decisions made by Parliament. It's just that everyone is more emotional about it than even a vote on going to war.

Re: Theresa May suffers humiliation in Commons

Labour must be laughing their heads off.

Theresa May could be in trouble again next Wednesday on the question of whether the withdrawal bill should set 19th March 2019 as the exit date for Brexit.

It seems Mr Grieve and other pro-European Tories have said that a specific date would make it more difficult to extend negotiations as envisaged by Article 50.
Can we expect yet again for the 12 Labour disciples to vote against the withdrawal date?

I despair for democracy in this country. What is the point of voting when what we voted for is being tossed aside.
