Your very first car.

Mine was a blue Mini 1000 bought for me by my mum in 82.
It was pretty much standard apart from a bug bore exhaust.

I picked it up on the Thursday night...spent Friday morning changing the oil and filter abd by 1330hrs we (my girlfriend. .future wife) were on the road for our first journey.....a drive from Branhall to Inverbervie in Scotland.

It ran like a dream....never missed a beat......thankfully as I'd forgotten to join the RAC.

By the time I was completely happy with it I'd fitted a 1380 Howley engine....Bucket seats, Wolfrace wheels, extended arches (moulded..not plastic add-ons) small steering wheel.

it'd leave the popular boy racer cars for dead....the likes of the 1600 Harrier/Sport Escorts. ....Mk1 Gokf GTi's....etc.

When I finally decided to sell (with a very heavy heart) a pal made an offer I couldn't refuse so we agreed, shook hands and agreed on a handover the following week as I had a weekend in Abersoch planned.

So off I set on my final trip with my baby.......knowing it'd be in good hands made me feel less sad.

So I arrived in Abersoch on the Friday afternoon after a great run through the twisties around Bala.....booked into my hotel.....went out for a few pints and retired for the night.

Got up Saturday to head for The Warren and it had been stolen. ....never to be seen again.....gutted.

Re: Your very first car.

I'd just passed my test and OH went to the showroom bought home a brochure and said let them know what colour you want the rest is sorted...

A lipari blue mini 1000 with a list of faults a mile long (we discovered as we drove)the lights went out at every bump, the chrome trim had problems and the electrics generally did what they wanted! but the engine was sweet and perfect.

I sold it when we moved to NL.

Mk1 1100cc Escort (1971 vintage), bought off the Milkman's daughter to pass my test in, beige in colour, very reliable, with a silky smooth gear change, sold it to a family member, and bought my first of many knackers, with knacker Lacquer paint jobs, and Wide Wheels.

Re: Your very first car.

I've never had a car of my own - always had to share with Tony.
Our first one was a Ford Anglia.

Re: Your very first car.

I owned a Triumph Herald. I turned it over going down a steep hill after necking a load of lager at my local. I didn't have a lot of sense those days, if any.

Re: Your very first car.

My first car was a 1959 apple green Morris Oxford. It was 10 years old when I bought it for £50 in 1969. Huge beast with a very convenient leather bench seat in the front. It was so tough that it survived a collision with an articulated lorry with only a broken headlamp glass and a scratched headlight trim.

Re: Your very first car.

Honda N600 not many made, bright yellow. I bought it with help from my nan but I was so proud when I paid her back over the following months. I used to drive her all over the place, we went to aldershot for her favourite sausages, by time we got home she would have gone off them but we were desperate to tempt her appetite drove to Basingstoke when we heard they had the first strawberries of the season in just so she could sit and smell them.

Took my grandparents on holiday to the coast and they had a lovely time him pushing her along the prom in her wheelchair her leaning back to hold his hand.

When we got back I met Steven that little car had quite a history time he was stolen ! It was very upsetting losing him because I had so many memories invested in that little car.

Re: Your very first car.

first car was a 1954 Ford Anglia 100e, 3 speed gearbox and side valve engine. Wipers vacuum operated so under power they didn't work. Got that in 1962

Exactly the same as this
