Most of them are blatant rip-offs of the originals, viz:

Independence Daysaster (Independence Day); Atlantic Rim (Pacific Rim); Ice 2000 (Day after tomorrow).

Absolute tripe.

I love a good sci-fi film but unfortunately, sci-fi these days means zombies, vampires or game of thrones.

Too true, Longdogs. Other than the bad SciFi, my favourite is technology-based science fiction, not "fantasy" stuff. My wife likes horror movies, but not vampire movies so that nixes a lot of movies billed as "horror" on tv, Netflix, etc.

It's the same on Amazon Kindle store. Sci-Fi is listed somewhere amongst the horror section and the horror section is full of vampires.

I saw a film once where Earth was invaded by beachballs with feet.

When they wanted to move, they retracted their feet and rolled about at incredible speed.

It was so corny it almost reached cult rating, so I promptly forgot the name of the film.

There have certainly been some shockers. I often wonder why film companies bother to make them in the first place.
