Today I'm indulging in something I've been craving for a while now - fried fish. Bought some nice catfish fillets yesterday, as well as a pound of colossal shrimp (these things are huge) and breaded and fried 2 of the fillets and 4 of the shrimp, as well as 4 big rings of onion and I'm also having 1/2 cup of German potato salad. It's only a little past lunchtime and I've already blown 3/4 of my calories for the day

Oh well. Need to indulge once in a while, otherwise what's the point of life?
mmm love fried fish---it all sounds rather delicious---I think a treat once in a while does not do too much damage.

Re: OFF slimming club---open to everyone.

Well, my favorite part of the week is here... Saturday, where I spend most of my day cooking in my kitchen, mostly doing Sunday dinner prep. I have potatoes to peel and broth to make, as we're having chicken & noodles over mashed potatoes with biscuits and peas. I love my Sunday Suppers.

Today for lunch I'm having chicken salad with strawberries in a wrap. Here's the recipe, in case anyone is interested.

Re: OFF slimming club---open to everyone.

That's too bad

Don't your grocery stores offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables your round? Granted they're much better when they're in season. Tomatoes and corn, especially. I never buy fresh cob corn in winter. Once the corn growing season is over and the farm markets close for wintertime, I'm done buying corn, unless it's off the cob and frozen or canned. Tomatoes as well. I get so spoiled eating those big, beautiful, juicy-sweet tomatoes from the farm market all summer, that the store-bought tomatoes are purely disgusting. That's because they're picked before they ripen. Can't grow tomatoes year round unless they're "hothouse tomatoes" (tomatoes grown in a greenhouse) and even those are picked too early so they last long enough to sell them. And some stores keep their tomatoes in the refrigerated section, which aggravates me to no end. You never ever ever keep tomatoes in the refrigerator unless they've already been cut into and you're keeping the other portion. And I hate doing even that.

So yeah, the only time I buy tomatoes in wintertime is if I absolutely need one or two for a recipe or something. And even then I'll sometimes consider leaving the tomatoes out of the recipe, unless they're crucial to it. So I definitely know what you mean about the off-season strawberries not being very nice. Our strawberry season 'round here was up like 2 months ago. But the ones from the grocery are okay. Good enough to use in recipes, at least.

well Linda--yes, they do--but they are just not very nice---at the moment I am enjoying the lovely peaches and nectarines which are at their best right now.Plus i like to get value for money---so strawberries at over £2.00 a box that might only do 2 meals---when I can buy a honeydew melon for £1.00 that will last all week--no contest !

Yep, makes sense to me

I haven't had honeydew in a long time. I like cantaloupe as well. Have you ever tried prosciutto-wrapped melon? Super yummy treat.

Oh, I love prosciutto. It's a dry-cured Italian ham and it's usually sliced very thin. It doesn't taste like ham, though. It's a taste I can't really describe, you'd just have to try it to see if you like it. Here is some prosciutto-wrapped melon. It sounds weird, but the flavors meld together perfectly.
