The trick is to put your foot on it ... and stand there a minute and have a quick peek around before bending down to scratch your ankle.

Naa, what you need is a magnet on a string. One Pee coins are magnetic - run the string down the inside of your trouser leg via a hole in your pocket leaving some slack in the pocket and have the magnet just peeping out at the bottom above your shoe line. When the opportunity presents itself, put a hand in your pocket and slowly lower the string until the magnet is touching the coin. Pull up the string with the coin attached until the penny is in your pocket. Job done.

Thing is a dog might have p!ssed all over it. And all over those you already have in your pocket at some stage.

Still pick them up though.
