How much electricity does a fan use?

It's quite heavy, but is a medium sized, oscillating table-top model. I know that fan heaters use a lot of power.

I got it from John Lewis a few years ago and hardly ever use it, but certainly appreciate it on a day like today.

I can't see any numbers on the bottom.

Yes, I can't see how many watts it uses but surely it's not anything like a toaster or a kettle?

It was very dusty so I had to give it a proper clean before using it. I seem to remember its being quite pricey (£60 or so ?).

Fans are ok, but all they do shift the air around, they don't cool it, whereas my water cooler (Its sitting in front of me blowing out gentle cooled air) does just that.

It makes a difference in my living room, UJ. Perhaps because it's not 30 degrees outside instead of 24. I get the breeze in my face when the fan turns round.

There's literally only a handful of occasions I use it throughout the year.

As RS has said, it depends on the rating. Our floor standing fan is rated at 35W. Over 24 hours it would consume less than 1 kWh which is a unit of electrical energy. That's the units your bill is based on. Our electric kettle is 2,000W.

That's domestic. Industrial fans can be very much larger. The largest we made the electrical controls for was 2,250,000 W. A bit of a beast.

That's interesting - a guesstimate would be that mine consumes no more than an old fashioned 40w bulb.

Well, I could pop up there and measure it for you. But that would be an 800 mile round trip............

You'd be welcome but I'd guess the petrol would be quite expensive!
