Pub Rock

Last night I saw a fantastic local band called The Alligators at my local pub in Hull called The Alligators, whose roots go way back with connections to Mick Ronson. They play some great blues-rock and our group of friends had a brilliant night out. They are well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Are there any bands you have enjoyed recently or in the past at small venues, perhaps you have seen some of the classic bnads of the 70's such as Dr. Feelgood or Brinsley Schwarz etc?

Meanwhile, here's some links of The Alligators:

Re: Pub Rock

Great sound Floydy, a worthy guitarist there.

Many years ago I went to see a band called The Opposition who were friends of a friend. I ended up buying their single at the time and I think they are still going.

I like that mate.
I was about to say that they sound very early 80s like The Cure or similar until I noticed the date - 1981!
Shame they never took off.

Re: Pub Rock

This band also from Hull have been playing the festivals and local pubs for years, also around Europe too.
I know the lead singer and brilliant guitarist Dave quite well as he used to work at Asda with my friend. They specialist in heavy indie-rock with a Doors-ish feel.

At the end of March they are making an appearance for their debut album launch after years struggling to finance it and it should be a great night out. Here's a couple of videos:

Been doing a bit of research or perhaps reminiscing. It's odd really, they started up in '79 and are still going, although one of the original members died a few years ago. They have had around ten albums and have their own website and I suppose a cult following. I'm surprised they were not better known.

I just managed to hear a particular single in istore that I have been trying to find for ages.

They supported The Stranglers when they played Hull a few years ago and when they returned last year they asked for them again.
Made them a lot of new fans I reckon.

Re: Pub Rock

I like very much the Black Delta too

Two from the dim and distant past and from Southend or somewhere close.
Dr Feelgood,Eddie and the Hotrods.

Feelgood were the best but Eddie was quite good.
