Wearing an arm band

I cam still remember vaguely as a child when people wore an arm band for mourning .IN ways it was a goo thing warning people that the person is grieving and to be gentle with them .
Now it seems it's only done at football matches .

Re: Wearing an arm band

I can remember in the early 60's, when my school friend was killed in a car accident, our headmistress said that we were allowed to wear an armband over our uniforms, if we wished to. There was often good reason for old traditions and it is a shame so many are disappearing.

I'm not as old as you two () I can only remember the blow up type and you had to wear two otherwise you'd go around in circles.

Just think, if your mum had remembered to stick a pin in the blow up type.... we could have all worn the other type for you after you went for a swim in the sea.

Re: Wearing an arm band

I remember when folks used to shut the curtains during the day when someone died, some of the folks on some developments must be in permanent mourning.

Curtains are shut here, but then we have the body at home as well and funerals are done within 3 days

Never seen a black armband worn here

Last I saw them would be in the 70's. I think they came about because not many people had a black set of clothing so made the armband to be worn

My Mother told me that they had to do their own embalming as well as everything else to do with the funeral. Even her own Mother how terrible it must have been
