I am constantly dragged up to the QLD Astrofest every year since I was born. My parents are avid astro-photographers. I love the cool nights and no school but I also love the dark skies. It's amazing to get out of the light polluted skies of Brisbane. I hope Energex doesn't choose the bright LED's they are testing! I want to keep what we have. This photo was a 10min exposure using mum's old Canon 400D on her old tripod. It was tricky to make sure the ground was level in the dark but this worked out nicely.

My grandfather passed away several months ago at the incredible age of nearly 102... this Saturday would have been his birthday. Over many years, pop built over 180 hand crafted wheelbarrows. Each one took between six weeks to three months to create. He donated these to Rotary to be auctioned off for charity, each one bringing in upwards of $1000. Even as recently as the beginning of this year, well into is 101st year he was still living at home by himself, working every day in his shed, or pottering in the garden. He left us all an incredible legacy... we wont see the likes of him again!

Here's my favourite astro photo - as it's my self portrait and obviously my Instagram profile photo too.
Combining my love of photography, the stars and horses all together in one photo...and so much more challenging and effective than the usual torch light to the stars!! Make sure you're watching ABC right now!!

I am so lucky to live in a city where you literally can stargaze from your own room. The sky is so clear and there’s not much light on the ground to disrupt. I love looking out to the stars because it reminds me of how little I am, hence, how little my problems are. And it is so therapeutic to let your mind wander.
To give you some perspective, if the sun is a 55 cm yoga ball, you know how big the earth is? One seed of blackpepper. Go to your nearest store and look for a blackpepper (not the ground one, duh). And that’s how little the earth is. And no, I cannot imagine how little we are then.
