No nothing wrong with being gay but from a straight mans point of view he doesn't want a gay sounding name.
As for you son in law being macho I think that's relative, there always someone more macho.
Maybe his machoness is brought on by his name? Just a thought and nothing personal.

Bob matey, the name Peter is a revered name with connections to two famous people in history - firstly the was pyotr (pronounced Peter) Kropotkin - a Russian
Annochist who emigrated to the UK and lived some years here in Brighton.
