Re: American recipe help

Hi Adanac, My understanding has always been that when the Americans refer to half and half, they are referring to half double cream (or full cream as they know it) and half milk in recipes and even more in their coffee !! I may well be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what they mean.

Re: American recipe help

Pretty much as you say SSG. It's to do with the fat content, half whole milk which is 3.5% fat, and half cream.

A lot here in Canada use it for coffee to give a bit of that creamy feel without going full strength cream.

Curious what you in the UK would use for tea and coffee? I use 2% filtered milk.

I don't touch milk or cream in my coffee Lee darlin' - erghhh, yuk!!! - I prefer a tot of Brandy in my black coffee.

Re: American recipe help

Well in the end I made it with milk because that seemed creamy enough to me and yes it worked just as well. Lesson learned milk is enough.
