Hi CeeCee. Yes it looks as if I am going to do the same as you.
Ive checked with them and even if I do move to another area they said I could take it with me and just re register, mind you by doing this its another reason for me not to have to move.

Re: Emergency alert system

One time I must have set off my alarm accidentally as I went out somewhere. Lifeline rang my contact to tell him that I was not responding, he came haring up to my home, only to find I was out. So it proved it just does work.

Re: Emergency alert system

I did take out the years contract with Lifeline 24. Unfortunately I hit a snag and was rejected. They said that if the alarm goes off they have to call a contact who can come round to see if I am ok. That contact has to be within 45 minutes travel. My son is not close enough. He lives 35 miles away and my daughter and ex wife live 23 miles away

So I had to post the kit back to them yesterday. I'm probably going to lose the set up fee of £35 even though it was cancelled the same day it arrived and wasnt even taken out of the box to set up.

Ive got a mobile phone and bought a new telephone to replace the one I had lost for my landline so that will have to do instead.

Typical isnt it though, I posted off the Lifeline box Saturday morning and for the first time ever since coming out of hospital I had very uncomfortable pains in my chest on late Saturday night.
Its ok, I'm not dead yet 😀

Obviously this is all my own fault for isolating myself totally when I was so ill. Billy no mates.
A friend said in a text yesterday that really I need to get out and meet people where I live. I suppose I should really start to do that now.

Re: Emergency alert system

MC, I am in a similar situation, although I do have Lifeline but I only have one contact, my son, who lives locally. But last week he was abroad and my daughter lives two hours away. Although I do not have much to do with my neighbours, I did ask them that if I had a problem, could I call on their help? Both sides agreed. Fortunately I managed the week without help.

I know exactly how you feel, and personally I do not socialise and cant bear the thought of coffee mornings or lunch clubs, being a loner. So I guess I will just have to carry on regardless.

Re: Emergency alert system

One of my many jobs ( I had 5 at one stage to fund my son through Uni) )was being a Care Line Operator working for a consortium of different local authorities monitoring calls and inputting data for thousands of clients all over the country some in sheltered housing who were turned over to us when the wardens were off duty others 'clients' who had purchased/rented their own Lifelines.

A large number of clients had difficulty finding anyone to put down as a named contact and even when they did the contacts often refused to go out particularly at night or they were too far away to go quickly.

Sometimes Clients rang accidentally, others just needed reassurance. We also arranged to call clients at a set time each day just to check they were ok . Many looked forward to that.
Our being there prevented a lot of unnecessary calls going through to the emergency services but we were still able to go through to 999 on a client's behalf if they had a problem something they were not always able to do themselves for example if laying on the floor. We could also stay with them till help arrived, a familar voice giving reassurance.

Even without contacts, I would recommend a vulnerable person has a Lifeline.

I have an emergency button on my Dorro mobile phone connected to my son. At some stage I may need a Lifeline too.

People, you can have Life-line even though your relatives live beyond the contact limit, providing you have a combination key safe attached to the outside wall of your property beside the front door and inform the life-line personnel what that combination is. In the event of an emergency, District Nurses or Ambulance personnel can get to you because they would be told what that combination number is.

That's good darlin' but I was also responding to Nom's contribution and trying to save him from having to give up his care-link for want of a key safe.
