If I was to pick one of Lonnie Donegan's records it would always be Does your Chewing gum loose it flavour. Brilliant record.

Re: Lonnie Donegan

Long almost forgotten memories of 1960. I'd been married a year and had my first child. Living in what my mother called: 'That insanitary hovel' with new neighbours next door. The beautiful, dangerous, irresponsible Hilda, her teenage daughters and her new man. Her ex was a dustbin man and her youngest daughter would play 'My Old Man's a Dustman' constantly, day and night, just to infuriate her new and much hated step father.

Lonnie Donnegan was a breath of fresh air that opened up the airways to real talent and a return to music for those of us who were already sick and tired of cloned groups.

Re: Lonnie Donegan

The sad thing about LD was although he was credited with the Birth of Rock and Roll he was not the happiest of men.

I will let this article explain

'What's a Lonnie Donegan' ? - made me laugh

I'm not surprised Solo - many artistes like this and if they run on 'half empty' - even worse

Solo - Remember when you've got a new book just published it helps to have some 'dirt' to spread around. The guy is dead, he can't sue.

I like Lonnie Donnegan, he was hard working (That probably upset a lot of the folk who met him) as I understood it he was working right up to the time he died.

He also (So far as I know) had no involvement with drugs and didn't court publicity by smashing up his hotel room or his guitar or engage in all the horrendous publicity stunts that todays dreary mob of iliterates get up to.

So he moaned a bit, so what I moan a lot Just glad no one is trying to make a buck by writing about me

Seem to remember him on the Six-Five special quite a bit.
