Browser saying "Not Secure"

Hi, wonder if anyone can advise me please. I am not all that ofay with computers. I have noticed that when I visit the two forums I have chosen to be a member of, when I put the URL in on the other one it says "Secure" and shows a little lock.
But when I click on the bookmark or even type it in manually for over50sforum.com, it shows "Not Secure".
This worries me, Could someone please tell me how do I make the connection on my browser to read "Secure" as the other forum I visit?

I have a Toshiba Laptop with full McAFee Anti-Virus, so why is a reputable site showing such a message? Thank you.

I think the 'not secure' message just means the Site is open to the www..(World Wide Web) so non Members can see most of what is posted on here....But I'm sure others may know better

Re: Browser saying "Not Secure"

When a website is secure (such as a banking site) it will have a https address and will have the little padlock showing. This means that the connection is secure and is also encrypted between your machine and the website. Many websites are beginning to use secure connections. Google and Bing search pages, Youtube and many others now have https addresses as a result of the revelations made by Assange and others.

The encryption is built into your web browser but the website you are visiting needs to respond to the secure request. This site doesn't have a secure connection to your browser so your browser lets you know. It doesn't mean that this site is dangerous.

Re: Browser saying "Not Secure"

I have never noticed the "Not Secure" message.

Anyway, I logged out of OFF and just visited the site - sure enough, ""Not Secure" appeared in the Google Chrome address bar .....

Since most of my internet access is via automatic login to sites via RoboForm then I guess that's why I am not usually aware of the display .....

Thank you all for your replies. At least I now know the reason it is showing Not Secure. I was rather worried but others on here are not so I will bow to your knowledge that all is well.

Thankyou Judd, I was a bit concerned about this too.
