Re: Britain 'draws up battle plan for war with North Korea'

As a member of NATO, will the UK have any choice but to get involved as part of the alliance? I’m not sure. Perhaps it will depend on circumstances.

Ideally, I'd like to see NK and SK united as a responsible democratic country. I'm sure that the majority of ordinary people in NK, who have had the good fortune to have seen what SK has, would want the same.

The trouble is that NK is like Communist Russia was: a regime run by a minority of people for their own benefit and at the expense of the majority. Not easy to circumvent, although perhaps not impossible.

A likely situation would be for Fatboy to overplay his hand and accidentally strike another country such as SK, Japan or the US. That would almost certainly lead to appropriate retributions.

A nuclear strike would result in a retaliatory nuclear strike. Our only hope would be that this would be a limited exchange and that China would have the good sense to keep its nose out.
Hi

Any Nuclear Strike on N Korea would affect China.

There is no way they would not retaliate.

North Korea has no way of accurately targeting the UK.

China has.

It is butt out time for us.

I don't think it works like that. I think they still need our agreement.

Hi

The potential conflict in North Korea has nothing to do with NATO.

We really must accept what we can and cannot do.

Perhaps low-yield neutron weapons carefully targeted. Minimal fallout.

Wise words and I suspect not far off the mark.

Hi

Apologies for getting technical.

Neutron bombs will have no effect on nukes in granite tunnels.

It does have something to do with NATO. If N Korea attacks the US or US territory first, the mutual defence principle of ‘an attack against one member is an attack against all’ would come into force.

But I think AnnieS is right if the US attacks N Korea first. Any involvement by other NATO member countries would be by agreement only and we should keep well out of it - but probably won’t.

No, but they can destroy anything on the surface, including aircraft and surface to air missiles, giving the Yanks the freedom to destroy anything and everything by conventional air attacks.

Then, of course, Fatboy's nukes must be brought out of the tunnels prior to launch, subjecting them to immediate destruction.

Anyway, all we are doing is discussing hypotheses. Let's wait and see what happens.
