Cats are notoriously independent creatures, and it seems that even when it comes to the way they sit, some simply refuse to follow the herd.

Animal lovers around the world have been sharing adorable snaps of their pets reclining in the quirkiest positions - including one who likes to straddle the back of the sofa, and another whose pose resembles that of a runner on the starting blocks.

Other photos capture cats with their hind legs spreadeagled in a startlingly human-like fashion.

Funnily enough I have to confess that I am not a big fan of cats.
But when I met my Wife 22 years ago she had a cat called Fluff, and of course if I wanted her then pussy came as well.
I ended up liking the cat, which passed away after around 10 years of our marriage.
We haven't gone in for another one, but this article and pictures did make me smile.

Ours doesn't sit in any daft or unusual positions, but sure sleeps in some weird ones.......
