Ah, yes. That was a good film. Anthony Hopkins was terrific. Tough old goat. I'm always a sucker for individualists who push forward against all odds.

Oh my, Silver Tabby. You have missed two of the greatest all-time classics. Please, Tabby, drop whatever you are doing, go straight to Amazon.com and order them. (I'm not positive, but I think the U.K. is Region 2).

Re: 10 of my favorites

You are right, Bakerman, UK is Region 2 - but when I dumped the TV set in favour of a DVD player - I made sure I bought one that played all Regions. I have quite a collection of Indian and US films.

The reason I have never watched either African Queen or Casablanca is a simple one - Humphrey Bogart - cannot stand that man!!

Re: 10 of my favorites

Sorry to hear that, Tabby. "Casablanca" with Ingrid Bergman is perhaps the greatest love story of all time. And in "African Queen", with Katherine Hepburn he steps totally out of character, not remotely Mr. Cool nor Mr. Tough Guy.

In real life he and Katherine Hepburn had a life-long love affair. Perhaps if she loved him, you might give Bogart a second chance ?
