No heating on here yet either ... I was also brought up tracing the icy patterns on the bedroom windows, we has coats thrown on top of us in bed in winter. Our loo was at the bottom of the garden and we didn't have an inside loo until I was in my teens. Nor TV. When I first went into someone's home with central heating on I remember feeling very overpowered by it and was glad to get back out into the fresh air.

Yep I also remember the ice on the inside of the windows and the coats added to the bed. Grabbing clothes and running downstairs to dress in front of the fireI never had central heating until we bought our first house in 1995 and I still prefer not to have it on for long

We did put the heating on at home for about an hour in September because it got very cold. But since then we have not put it on and don't intend to unless it gets very very cold.Mind you we have just come back from two weeks in Majorca where it was very warm indeed.
Sometimes you do have to put the heating on for a bit just to air the house out but otherwise we don't argue about it, I don't set the heating to come on in the morning or evening we take it each day at a time.

I too grew up with ice on the inside of the windows,a large army coat on the bed,and an outside loo,so now when it's cold the heating goes on/up...no more chittering teeth for Me thanks,
... when it's cold....I'm warm.

I only use the radiator in the sitting room, one hour in the mornings and two and a half hours in the evening. 18 degrees. No heat in the bedroom ever, and only a towel rail in the bathroom - showers are very quick in winter.
There is a coal effect electric fire in the sitting room which I have never used, just as I have never used the bathroom underfloor heating - not even tried it to see if it works and I have been here five years. Got to keep an eye on the budget and I believe it is expensive to run?
