Looking at BBC4 just now, I love railways and trains, but here we have Michael Portillo riding a piece of railway history, the old Prague to Munich line dressed in overalls, then he says “Well here I am working my passage on this famous old line” Sorry Michael but I’d prefer not to see that bit.

haha....
I love the Michael Portillo railway programme where he follows the Bradshaw's Guide. In fact I discovered Llandudno through watching that programme and regularly visit there.

Re: Gumbud Leisurely Scribbles (part 2)

[I can't stand him-I've met him...to say he loves himself would be downplaying it.]
Anyway,that's nuffink to do with why I popped in.

I just nipped in to tell you all,I'm off to meet a gangster.
He used to be a 'bit of a lad',a 'let's hold a bank up' prankster.
We became friends when I was doing psychology work in a prison;
My job was to listen to various tales-and one of them was his'n.

It was obvious right from the off that it hadn't been his choice,
But at that time and in that place,he wouldn't last as a solo voice.
Now me,I've always done MY thing,regardless of consequence;
But not everybody thinks like me-most others have common sense.

So anyway,a 'job' went wrong,he ended up inside.
Where he met me-or I met him-I really can't decide.
But either way we became friends,he finally saw the light,
and instead of continuing being 'a face' he decided to put things right.

And as a result,he's now a free man,with a really strong conduct code.
Which you may find amazing,but it's not been an easy road.
However,he's taken the classes and courses,and rid his life of sorrow.
....and I'm off to see my mate the ex 'face' for a pint or two,tomorrow.

Now,you may wonder WHY I'm bothering putting this on here;
Well,the truth is,I just wanted to try to make an issue clear.
Y'see,his story's easier to tell than to live-he could be any one of us,
If our circumstances had been different-but he never makes a fuss.

I'm chuffed to bits that he's turned things around,he's now a working guy.
He's showed us all that we CAN beat the odds,if we have the guts to try;
So,tomorrow we're meeting at his new place-maybe go for a beer or two.
I'll be mentioning this forum and this thread,with special mention for YOU!

Lovely piece of writing there Pug.

I don’t like politicians but I like Michael Portillo when he’s being a person and doing the railway programs, he’s not afraid to have a go at doing anything, a good presenter in my opinion, as for a politician, well I honestly wouldn't know.
A warm welcome to you Cloudwatcher, hope to hear a lot more from you.

I like Michael Portillo too, I find his Railway Journeys very entertaining and informative, in fact, it makes me want to do the same. Very interesting well written poem Pug, seeing good prose like that makes me less likely to contribute on Scribbles; no way I could follow that.

OGF - you don't have to follow anything - various other posts stimulate us all to do our own thing - that's all you have to do it's as easy as doing one of your mountain runs!!

It’s just as Gumbud says Bob, ‘Leisure’ is the key word here and we all have a go at scribbling about anything that springs to mind, no hurry, no worry, post when you feel like it and about anything you like, but we try to keep politics out of it, there are plenty of other serious threads for that type of stuff, doesn’t have to be poems either.

Re: Gumbud Leisurely Scribbles (part 2)

It’s a modern photo so I think he got her at ’The Body Shop’ , Special offer that week, ‘Everythings down, now is your chance’.
I love the old cowboy photo’s Solo, in fact I love most really old black and white photo’s, makes you wonder what was going through their minds as they stood there posing for this new fangled invention the camera. Well it’s obvious what these fellas were thinking about ain’t it, by the looks on their faces they're definitely a hankering for something.
That snap will probably light a spark of inspiration for someone, even a ‘Gumbustion’ of poetry, who knows, watch this space.
