Re: Roses

Well my roses are blooming! Best year yet so far so they must love this horrid heat. The beautiful perfume just fills my garden and my neighbour says she picks the petals that are over her garden and fills a bowl with them for her bathroom.

Re: Roses

Some from my garden
The red/pink is a rose for rockeries whose name I have forgotten
The White one is called Ice Diamond which is doing very well this year
The yellow one is a celebration rose, again I can't remember it's name, it grows in a pot and like the others doing well.

Mups feeding regime works for me too, although the tip about using bananas I had never heard of so I will try that, thanks

Re: Roses

I like that first one Rehab. Look very much like one of mine and I can't remember the name either.

I had heard of the banana skins idea before, but as yet, I haven't tried it myself.

Re: Roses

I read an interesting article recently, about Black Spot in roses.

Part of this write-up was saying about roses bred by Kordes are usually healthy and vigorous. It says:

[Quote] The health and vigour of Kordes roses isn't a fluke. This company stopped spraying their rose beds in 1976 because eco-minded young German gardeners had virtually written off the rose as a good garden plant.
Initially, whole fields of roses went down with disease until fewer than 10 healthy specimens were left. These formed the basis of a new breeding programme and within ten years Kordes had bred a range of healthy, modern roses, and German gardeners responded by planting them.
They are now grown in many countries and their brave move has inspired other rose breeders to raise healthy roses too, so few trial fields are sprayed nowadays.

All roses have a breeding name in brackets after their commercial name.
Those bfed by Kordes begin with KOR.] [UNQUOTE]

I thought that interesting and worth knowing, and I shall be looking out for Kordes roses as I always get Black Spot here, no matter how careful I am.

Re: Roses
