The good guy is someone who tries to help those that are defenceless.
The bad guy is the one who intentionally kills thise he's vowed to protect.

And we are always absolutely sure which one is which ? It seems to me we've removed bad guys and even worse guys have taken their place.

I'm not confident anymore just who is the bad guy at all.

Ah ... that takes me back to watching old Westerns and cowboys and Indians.

I used to ask mum ... mum, I'd say .. why has that good guy just done that? Wasn't it naughty?
And mum would reply, he's the bad good guy.
Not to be confused with the good bad guy who can often appear the same.

But we're not talking terrorists here. Trump did not bomb ISIS.
The War against Terrorism is another war within a Civil War isn't it?

Trump has attacked a ruler, and with the best will in the world that can't be interpreted in any other way than ... the US President does not approve of another countries ruler.

Politics aside ... at a guess ... any innocent civilians, and some of those could well be Alawites living in government controlled areas, fearful of further US airstrikes, might not thank US intervention/interference or Assad's removal .... and might presage another raft of refugees on the move.

Ask Trump what he will do if he could oust Assad and I suspect there will be an embarrassing silence.
He's good at knee jerk reactions and scribbling out Executive Orders but does he have a longterm strategy .... better than Libya and Iraq, which amounted to bomb the crap out of the enemy and then come home.

I thought the subject was the use of chemical weapons?
Definitely bad guy!

The West didn't act last time which gave permission for this second attack, surely?

When good men do nothing ....Etc etc.

Re: Syrias Disappeared :The case against Assad

Well I suppose we could simplify it ...

Assad bad guy.
Putin bad guy.
Trump good guy ......

Except the civilians he killed in Yemen and Mosul during their US airstrikes.

It'd be simpler to just accept that there are no good guys.
Every world leader acts for his own countries interests (Putin and possibly Assad) ... or his own ego (Trump and possibly Assad).
Which begs the question when does a saintly good guy become an invader?

Four years ago some gave a big sigh of relief when Obama exercised caution and stopped short of bombing Assad. The concern then was just how far it could escalate. Perhaps into a major conflict.
Since then the West could have made an ally of Assad in the war against Terrorists and by keeping channels of communication and diplomacy open worked for a diplomatic solution to the resolution of the Syrian conflict.

If this situation escalates, as it looks to be doing with Russia and Iran now standing shoulder to shoulder, I wonder how long it will be before a cooler head prevails.

I shall gracefully withdraw from this thread now.
Been nice discussing it.
I hope Trump doesn't ignite something major.

Re: Syrias Disappeared :The case against Assad

But surely Morti the "something major" has already happened, and that is the continued (or rather repeated) use of chemical weapons?

Or am I wrong?

But I wish it had been the UN that had made a stand and not Trump.
