Re: Do you want to live this long?

I think we would all say we didn't want to live that long, but given the option to die, with a painless injection, I suspect that only those who were seriously suffering would say yes.
I haven't watched the whole video but that lady was smiling in some of it and she managed to stay in her own home till 2015.
I honestly don't believe that any of us can honestly answer this question, because surely it would depend on the circumstances you were living under, and none of us know what they will be if we reach 117.

Re: Do you want to live this long?

There was another story reported yesterday about a Kenyan woman who has reached 117 and was having a big family reunion. I think about 140 family members attended and that was only half of them. I understand that it will be shown on TV.

'Hope I die before I get old' A young man looking to the future, but I bet if you asked Roger Daltry that question now the answer would be quite different. Our perception of life changes as we age, and we have to reappraise constantly to keep the flame of life burning bright. From a distance it may look faded and dying, but the closer you get the brighter and warmer it feels.

I prefer life to the alternative, and will do my damndest to enjoy it as long as is possible.

Re: Do you want to live this long?

Depends how long I can keep my dignity.

By that I mean that I want to look after myself (mostly) - wipe my own bum and make my own food.

The alternative is total oblivion - and I don't think there are many waiting, up there, for us.

Nope ... not for me. You know deep inside your own heart when it's time to go.

Re: Do you want to live this long?

No , I would probably be totally dependent on family members ,social services etc to feed ,clothe, wash me etc. Having probably lost a large amount of memory & mobility as well...So with all respect I feel in those circumstances ,most elderly don't wish to prolong their situation or pain. It's not for me.
