Sooooo, it wasn't soul music from the North of England it was mostly American? It was adopted by the clubs up there.

Thats right Tess , i think the Northern lads like the tempo , and could do that dance which i think they started..I do like to see them dance its certainly different ..
Reminds me of Street dancing , whether it spilled over onto the street or the lads took it into the dance halls im not sure .

I remember there being "all nighters" at the Twisted Wheel in Manchester and at Wigan Casino when I was a teenager although I never went to any of them. I loved Tamla Motown and went to the discos in Manchester.

It seems as though Northern Soul is still going strong though ....

I love Northern Soul and Tamla Motown music as it was my era!
My youngest daughter's friend's father is a Northern Soul DJ and l have been to a few Northern Soul nights that he has organised and to parties at their house where the Northern Soul music played is brilliant!
I don't think the male dancers look like 'dads dancing at a party' at all! These Northern Soul dancers are great to watch as they put the talc on the floor and dance skilfully to the great music.
My ex partner Chris used to go to Wigan Casino in the 1970's and when we lived up in the north west in 2004, we went to a theatre in Preston to see 'Once Upon A Time in Wigan' a play based on the times at Wigan Casino.
It was a wonderful show which l have the CDs of the music from it.

What do I care???. I was not allowed into a certain club in Leeds because my hair was too long. Think Stringfellow.
