Are we at war?

What is the exact definition?

If we are..can the Government (when there is one) declare Martial Law?
How would we manage that in a supposedly free society?

Hi

Good to see you posting again Rhian.

I personally think that Martial Law is as likely as me winning Miss Universe.

The troops where on the streets for a minimal period of time in response to a defined emergency and then away again as soon as possible, which is how it should be.

Sometimes we need them, as in the Iranian Embassy Siege.

We have had far more troops on the streets for far longer dealing with the floods.

Re: Are we at war?

Be careful what you wish for. Martial law - which will be heralded in at some point in the future no doubt - will mean anyone could be taken away and interned without remonstrance if enough power is allocated to it's implementation. Of course such power could also be given to the police. This is a very frightening scenario. It also means snooping on a massive level where personal privacy will no longer be allowed. Eventually everything about us stored on a governmental database (if it isn't already that is). Who knows - we will all have personal implants? Not so far fetched ...

To be honest with you this is the future. Enjoy your apparent freedom whilst you can.

Islamic Jihadis are certainly at war with us, but our liberal politicians (of all parties) are too PC to acknowledge it for fear of being called racist. Rotherham all over again.....

That should be classed as pathetic.

Terrorists declare they are launching a war but as above they are a handful of individuals.

One sided ??
Should we the overwhelming majority even be using that word ?

possibly "crisis" is a better word ?

A handful of individuals?

An army more like....one that has memebership of over 200,000.
These are trained personnel, not your average goat herder or farmer.

It is claimed that if all funding of ISIS was stopped right now, they'd still have enough funds to last for 3 years.

Underestimate them at our peril.

Take a look at their armoury

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milita...ipment_of_ISIL

We should be taking them on in their own back yard, on our terms, not theirs.

We know they have a lot of members but where are they ??
200,000 in East London.
Luton ?
Up North ? Europe ? Middle East ?

IF we know where they are we can have a WAR (not outside my house though please!)

I've only seen/heard a handful of individuals in UK - surely we can put them out of action?

War is not the word we should be using - things are different these days.

Re: Are we at war?

They are fragmented but the main are, as we all know, in the Middle East.

Take out the training camps, the financing and the military.

This is where battle should be done....the tail doesn't wag the dog.

It's far better than the evil war machine going unchallenged and just sitting here hoping we aren't the target of the next attack.

Re: Are we at war?

Has this country actually declared war since 1939? There was a war on terror, some conflicts and British troops involved in what was war by any other name.
