Reusing old pcs

In the last while I have taken ownership of 5 xp era desktop PCs all were destined for the skip (they are all dell optiplex business type computers gx 280,gx 620,210l) .I must say it is great fun tinkering with them ,putting different operating systems on them ,upgrading CPUs on them(you can buy processors on eBay for as little as a euro with free shipping) .there was flat screen monitors being thrown out as well ,check out the pictures below of the 210l and monitor set up.

My friend does this, gets most of his kit from Freecycle chops and changes them and gets some fine kit. It does surprise me how much gear gets destined for the skip we really have become a throwaway society.

Don't know why but i have kept 3 old hard drives from previous computers or just upgraded to SSD. Would be interesting to put them back in the computer to see what was on them

Snap ! I also have three HD's lounging in a drawer. A local on WightBay has a new HD carrier for £10, so I will plug them in and view. One has Windows XP.

There were two charity outfits here on the Wight who rebuilt old PCs then sold them in working condition. Both have disappeared.
