Re: The British Constitution

First comment on first link....

The British Constitution is not, as it is in many countries, a ‘written constitution’. It is not codified in a single document but is made up of a complex web of statutes, conventions, and a corpus of common and other law. It is also informed by an interweaving of history and more modern democratic principles. The legal premise of the United Kingdom constitution – that the UK parliament is sovereign –
End of conversation ?

Let Realist waffle on....as he does.

Re: The British Constitution

Well we do have the Magna Carta....if you write one up you would have to keep changing it with new laws etc. Who can be bothered?

Re: The British Constitution

Hi

The Queen does, in theory, have a load of powers.

In practice, she doesn't.

We have long since got fed up with being ruled by a King or Queen.

The last one who tried to rule as an absolute Monarch had his head chopped off.

The Queen is Head of State, nothing more, nothing less.

If she did try to overrule the will of Parliament I doubt very much that we would chop her head off in these enlightened times.

We would simply ignore her and declare the legislation passed.

We live in the real world, we are governed by an elected Parliament not by some theoretical absolute Monarch.
