Sound Proofing

I am going to have a go at sound proofing a wall not done this sort of thing before so am looking for any ideas that anyone may have. Look forward to your help.

Re: Sound Proofing

Hi

Sound proof against what type of noise?

If it is low frequency noise, thuds, rock music etc then adding mass is the only way.

Higher frequencies, such as talking, are much easier, plenty of sound insulation about.

Hi

Apologies.

Mass is weight, heavy panels.

Lightweight sound insulation is dead easy. loads of light weight ready made panels with plasterboard already fixed.

Re: Sound Proofing

Good luck with this doc . My friend lives in a one bed back to back house , I tell you the walls are paper thin . Everything and I mean everything can be heard from neighbours , stirring tea cups , opening of cupboards even talking . It's a disgrace properties are allowed to be built like this . I was in my friends flat the other night and you can hear the above walking around as if they are in your bedroom .

I'm lucky , although I live in a small 35 yr old terraced house we have gas fires so we have air gaps between each other and heavy breeze blocks then brick . Further up on the estate the partition walls are plasterboard so general living sounds pass through the walls .
