Re: Do YOU have an escape plan?

Wondering now about putting smoke alarms on the walls.

I don't 'do' heights and my house is Victorian, with fairly high ceilings, which means I have to rely on someone else to replace the batteries in the two I have and this is not always convenient.

If I put them on the walls instead, would this still work?

The only downside is that it is entirely made of wood (except for the roof of corrugated iron) and can be a pile of charred ashes in 15 minutes if it catches fire. I do have smoke detectors in each room
Does the wood not have any fire restistant coating on it?

Re: Do YOU have an escape plan?

We have always had a plan and we insisted that the children practise.
Smoke alarms throughout, a fire blanket in the kitchen and an extingusher in the garage. We know where we are going and what we are doing with the pets.

Nothing is left to chance.

I didn't know you can get them with long-lasting batteries.

Thanks for that.

So putting them on the walls is pointless?

Ah ... good idea

A sis in law is married to a retired Fireperson

I shall message her.

Why didn't I think of that?

Re: Do YOU have an escape plan?

regulations are now that all new houses must have on upstairs window at least that opens 90 degrees in each room also be that can't be locked from the inside. That is at least what I have been told
New windows have to have a FENSA certificate except for conservatories and the like

I didn't know until we had our chimney swept, they now should have certificate saying the work carried out is accordance with the law by a registered chimney sweep

Re: Do YOU have an escape plan?

Ground floor flat. Could either dash out of my front door, out of the bedroom window, or the French door in the lounge.

Smoke alarm is centrally located in the passageway.
