Some of the absence of insects and bees has been laid at the door of Neonicotinoid insecticides and there has been a temporary partial ban on there use on some crops.

I was dismayed to learn that many of the seeds, bulbs and plants we buy have been treated with the stuff and I try to seek out ones which haven't been treated...

We try and buy from a local nursery they are pretty much guaranteed to be organic, only time we don't is when morrisons have some half dead plants that I pick up for next to nothing and nurture back to health.
