Are pharmacists qualified to examine people?

They are experts on drugs, but does that make them qualified to do personal examinations too?

I believe they can do basic checks these days.

If that is so, and they found something wrong, they can't prescribe though, can they?

I am not sure about that, but they can advise the person to see their GP.

This is it exactly, he would just have sent me back to see the Doc, and I'd only just seen him for a check up, so pointless really.

My point was, I declined his offer but he kept asking every time I went in, to the point of me getting sick of it so I changed pharmacies.

I would definitely ask a pharmacist for advice regarding meds but if I had an actual illness or the like I'd see my GP.

Re: Pharmacist.

I posted the thread for two reasons the first being to inform the intentions of the goverment to palm off more work previously done by a GP.

The second about the new potential for Blood Glucose monitoring which could make life easier for those that need to test with the potential massive savings this will have for the NHS.

Re: Pharmacist.

I still cannot see why a Doctor cannot spare an extra minute to describe the purpose & possible side effects of the pills he's prescribing.

As I've been having these issues for 8 years, if it were a heart attack I think I would know by now! Plus my GP had just given me an MOT so I politely declined his kind offer. Again and again and again.

Nowadays I get my meds from a different chemist who doesn't badger me.
I'm not sure I'd want my pharmacist examining me at all. Are they qualified to do that ?

That's what I asked back in post 11, Julie.

I'd appreciate their help and advice about drugs and prescriptions, but not sure I'd be happy about a personal examination.

Re: Pharmacist.

We have this happening in Canada now also.
I went in to the pharmacist last week to get a presc (needle, prolia, for osteoporosis)...

I told him to put it in my cooler bag as it has to be kept cold. He informed me that he could give me the needle himself and he escorted me into a small room he now has set up for such things, as well as advice, etc.

I was very surprised. Better than waiting in the doctor's office.
