I've looked it up, but even so I don't think I could differentiate a harlequin ladybird from any other.

I suppose that one way would be to wait and see if it bites you!

Re: Ladybirds

We also introduced a pond into their overgrown 1/4 acre wilderness.
By the end of the summer we had frogs & whatnots galore...............now we are waiting to see their frogs spawn.

Re: Ladybirds

Ah ... this might help.

Looks like mine yesterday was a harlequin.
In fact ... if the pictures are right it means I don't see many of our native ladybirds much anymore.

Re: Ladybirds

I've not seen as many as used to be the case. Hardly ever had one in the house. But this frost/thaw weird weather we are having can't be good for their survival.

Re: Ladybirds

It was a little chilly out so I put it in the porch so it could acclimatise and nip outside if it wanted to.

Thank you Morty. I hate them. Here, if you kill them, they stink. Is it the same there?
We call them ladybugs....
When we were children we used to sing..

"Lady bug, Lady bug, fly away home,
Your house is on fire, and your children are alone" hahahaha

Re: Ladybirds

I've never squashed one to find out if they stink. I didn't know they did.

I'm a sucker for little critters. Years back I rescued one that was been attacked by a mob of ants ... I squashed all the ants and put it to recuperate on a flower in the garden.
