All animals like food especially a specially tempting food, no mystery why they like a treat IMO dried liver can turn a slavering beast of a dog into a docile doggy that loves you. And throw enough down gives you time to run away just in case that doesn't work

But, 'Why do animals NEED treats?'

Well no one needs treats I guess although it's pretty boring life without, I use them to keep order and teach them to behave in a civilised way. Day gone by some trainers used punishment I'd rather give them a treat if they do it right and ignore the wrong.

I also think we just like giving treats, a donkey doesn't need to be given a treat it gets its food but it's lovely handing them a carrot or something. Makes me feel all warm and fluffy inside.

That's what I thought. It's not for the poor animal firstly. It's more important that it makes the human feel better.
