Todays music, what do you think of it?

What do you over 50's think of the music today? would you buy any of the songs?
Rita Ora, Mr Probz, John Legend, Calvin Harris, Kieza, Paloma Faith. I never heard of any of them but that is to be expected from an old man like me because they are the first top five records in the BBC's Top Ten Records this week. I packed up looking at the top 10 when I reached 40 I think, I just looked it up out of curiosity.
Isn't it strange how we all stick to the music that was around when we were young, in 50 years time some of the young folks of today will probably be singing those top five songs at the christmas party for old folks in the parish hall, the young folks of that day will be sniggering through the windows looking in and saying, as we do today about all modern music "What a load of crap" little do they know their turn will come too, it's only natural after all, isn't it?

I'm very young in attitude but, I don't like modern music much.
There have been a couple, but that's peanuts compared to years ago when the charts were full of diverse and good music.
I like Paloma Faith and Emerald thingy - but not much out there, certainly not to buy .....

Sorry I got his name wrong it's Williams not Wilson

He has been around a lot longer than that song, does a fair bit of soul and r&b singing in a duo and a group.

Re: Todays music, what do you think of it?

I have a long back-sight as far as music goes, so Ive plenty from most of the past decades, however music has become product and the likes of X factor etc has removed any originality from current music. Add in the supermarkets selling only the heavily promoted by record companies latest overproduced and hyped produce. All the independent stores have closed, about the only radio station that still features variety is Radio 5, Sunday finds it on all day.

Perhaps its because i struggle to find new and interesting music because ive heard so much, it all seems rehashed. However im still coming across older stuff that still surprises.

Re: Todays music, what do you think of it?

The 1960s had their fair share of rubbish music - bubblegum infantile stuff with daft dance moves. I don't think today's music is any worse on the whole, although I've not heard of most of the chart topper singers as I never listen to "pop" on the radio. Some stuff's quite sophisticated compared to 50 years ago, but I can't stand the pseudo-porn videos that accompany them. If a song is really good then does it really need simulated sex and half naked men and women to big it up? At least the Beatles kept their kit on!
