Re: Todays music, what do you think of it?

I love modern music, have to say my radio station of choice is "Heart", I tend not to look back, onwards and upwards every time for me .

Today's music is awful. I lost interest in the charts years ago.

Some stuff's quite sophisticated compared to 50 years ago, but I can't stand the pseudo-porn videos that accompany them. If a song is really good then does it really need simulated sex and half naked men and women to big it up? At least the Beatles kept their kit on!
I agree about the 60s - yes there was great music which we still play and appreciate today, but there was an awful lot of total rubbish as well. I fear that the difference with today's music is that in 50 years time, no-one will be playing "classics" from the 2010s because there aren't any. I can't even think of anything from the 90's worth remembering - let alone the 2010s.

Have to say I quite like a lot of it: Elle Kings Exs and Ohs, Symphony Clean Bandit, Human Rag and Bone Man to name a few. Can't beat 80s music though ! 😃

I think this is the best era of music I have ever experienced. I would agree that the popular, commercial music that is played by media giants doesn't really float my boat. I would also say that the popular music I liked most was that of the 60's and the 80's. However the only way to discover new music was to either hear it played on the radio or see it when a band came to town. If one had plenty of money one could buy records (or CDs starting in the 80's) to hear things that weren't being played publicly, but that was expensive.

Now I have a world of music available to me online. I can hear so many artists that I might never have been exposed to without the internet. One can even user services like Pandora (US only I know) or Spotify to play music like you currently like to find new artists that play the styles you like.

In addition you can purchase the music you like online and don't have to depend on your local store to carry the music you enjoy.

I love a lot of new artists and find my musical tastes expanding all the time. Different artists with new takes on the sounds I like have come out with music that thrills me on a regular basis.

Open your ears, browsers and minds and you can find some great music from today.
A brilliant post and I agree with every word of it.
Every decade has had its share of good music, and the current decade is no exception. Every decade has had its share of rubbish music, and the current decade is no exception. I grew up with with and have always loved hard rock, avantgarde, punk, ska, reggae and electronic music. When my kids grew up I took an interest in and learnt to appreciate what they listened to (something my parents never did with me). And now, through the internet and sites like Youtube I am always discovering good music that is being made today, or even good music made years ago that I missed first time around. I love music of many different genres, and of any decade, the current decade included.
