I used it when I had a frozen shoulder about a year ago and it relieved the ache but I still needed physio to cure the problem.

As for arthritis, I bought some Ayurvedic Tiger balm in Sri Lanka for my mum and she said it was the best thing she had tried. I'm not sure though if it's the same as the Tiger Balm you can get here.
