Re: Apple Tree Yard

I really enjoyed the programme and was surprised at the ending . Didn't expect it either . I thought she was a brilliant actress .

OK then, here we go...!

SPOILER ALERT!!

When she is released and comes out of the court to meet her family she is immediately re arrested for perjury. She is escorted straight back inside and was given a 6 months prison sentence for perjury. She was released after 3 months and when you saw her at the end in her garden that was immediately after her release from prison.
Her daughter's baby was three months old when she first sees her.

She did go and see the place where they'd had had their tryst and it was being demolished. She did NOT visit her lover in prison!!!

And I'll have to check by re reading but I'm pretty sure they invented the bit where she remembered she was jokingly telling him to kill him, smash his face in...And he presumably, because he couldn't seem to tell the difference between fact and fiction, took her words literally. I'm sure it's not in the book. Neither is the bit, the deciding moment, where she looks lovingly up at her husband in the gallery and you can see her lover watching and taking it in, and consequently attracting the attention of his defence council, because he's decided at that moment to betray her and tell about their affair.

SPOILER ALERT!

Thanks ruthio, that's interesting. I wonder why they change the story sometimes? I thought the bit where she tells him jokingly to kill George was the defining moment so I am surprised that was not in the book.

Just out of interest, Apple Tree Yard does exist and is just behind St James' Park. I'm not saying I have ever been there of course.

I was wrong about that!
I've just gone back to the book and checked... There's a long description of them half asleep and yes she does whisper those words to him.
BUT... after a few moments she realises he's awake, and he replies, "I don't think so...".

I would've thought that was pretty important!!

The book is definitely better in my opinion.
