Re: Climate Change

Another viewpoint :

https://iowaclimate.org/2017/01/23/t...-a-difference/

"1.Kinnick Stadium holds 70,585 Hawkeye Fans and atmospheric CO2 is 400 ppm. If every Hawkeye Fan represents one atmospheric molecule, then 28 Hawkeye Fans would represent atmospheric CO2. Man however is not responsible for all the atmospheric CO2, and is responsible for at most 10 of those 28 molecules of CO2. Man’s contribution to atmospheric CO2 is the equivalent of 10 Hawkeye Fans in Kinnick Stadium.

2.CO2 is a trace gas at 400 ppm, and its contribution to global warming is to react with a very narrow band of outgoing radiation between 13 and 18 microns."

Re: Climate Change

It has been revealed by the Daily Mail that global warming figures have been deliberately manipulated to convince the powers that be to invest billions of dollars into bogus schemes.

Yes. I have maintained this for a long time.

A money making scam, without any doubt as far as I'm concerned.

The real problem is that we are still being obliged to pay for this (and pay our money to the perpetrators of the scam) in our energy bills - green surcharges.

I'd like to see the government challenge this and ensure that this criminal practice is stopped.

Re: Climate Change

The arguments that someone is promoting Global Warming because they are making money off of it reminds me of the right-wing arguments that money is being made from abortion. Why would a doctor risk being shot or blown up by "prolife" activists for $700 a procedure when they could be making $12,000 a procedure doing tummy tucks. There is much more money to be made in the fossil fuel industry by denying human-caused climate change than there is in promoting the science that supports it.
The deniers are running out of myths:

Sounds like alternative facts to me (or is it fake news?)

The science has come from several sources.

Re: Climate Change

I saw a film recently, called Before the Flood. It's a documentary about climate change directed by Fisher Stevens with Leonardo DiCaprio. It is non-sensationalist, non-threatening, wholly factual - with filmed evidence - and gives more sides to the climate change story than I'd ever heard before. It says who believes in climate change, why, and how and why their lives have since been threatened. Who stands to win, who stands to loose. The effects of climate change today, and the likely effects in the future. It says who can do what - which countries are acting, which are not, and why.
It also goes on to say what every single individual person can do to help reduce climate change.............. It really is a fantastic film and very well worth watching...........it's a really intelligent production ................unlike the Daily Mail!

Some figures may have been, but there is no doubt that this winter and previous winters it is taking longer for the ice to form in the Hudson Bay, and the polar bears are not able to get out to it until much later. This year I think it was about 2 to 3 weeks later from what I can remember. We watched day in day out to see if they could manage it while they became more and more hungry as they hadn't eaten since about June. .

Re: Climate Change

Hi

The problem with fossil fuels is not just CO2, apart from gas, they produce a lot of nasties which we breath in.

The thing about gas is that we have to import it.

We have to get away from importing energy, we are at the mercy of OPEC and the like and also currency swings.

Nobody is saying that the climate is not changing PD. Look back through the history of this planet. Major changes have taken place without the help of mankind or industry.
