When we looked for help both the building society and bank could only advise on their own products so they are far from independent although they are free.

Nothing comes free. Financial advice has a cost. I guess I got lucky when I invested the bulk of the difference when I downsized. 1% fee,but I do get around 3.5 % income return and the capital has gone up just over 1%.

Yes ive looked Mups thanks for the link,i dont think its what i need as advised by Cab,i have several issues going on at the moment the outcome of which will depend on a response to something else. Without that response the rest is academic. I was hoping someone had personal experience of an Independent Financial advisor before i progress things further
