Re: Your single most important question about losing weight

The big question when it comes to losing weight is

CAN YOU REDUCE YOUR APPETITE - IF SO HOW?

Re: Your single most important question about losing weight

I kind of understand the HOW-TO. My question is more about what you find to be the biggest obstacle to lose the weight when hitting 50 or above?
1. Knowledge of healthy eating?
2. Willpower?
3. Family?
4. Work?
5. Emotional problems?
6. Love of food?
7.
8.
Etc..

I'm just curious. Cause the weight gain never hit me before I got older.

I don't believe this. Can you provide an example?

Remember sugar is sugar whether added or naturally occurring.

I'd say every yoghurt will have an amount of sugar listed in the nutritional information. Happy to be proved wrong though.

For me its lack of exercise

I have mobility problems as well as others and whilst I manage to work part time in a very physically demanding job, it leaves me with days like today where I was in complete agony and even getting out of bed today was hard work ( seriously took me 10 mins to get myself in a sitting position )

So whilst I do watch what I eat, I have days of forced inactivity

I do move as much as I can as often as I can. Ive even signed up for a 5km sponsored charity fun run next month. I know I won't be able to run it, I will walk it and jog on the downhill stretches

I recently lost a lot of the weight, and I'm still trying to lose the last 20-30 lbs. During that time I had so many questions I couldn't find good answers to. There are so many conflicting oppinions about everything from diets to types of exercise.

If you've tried to lose weight and get fit in the past I would like to hear what you find/found the most difficult in losing the weight and keeping it off.

Just in my way to bed but will pick this up tomorrow xx

Re: Your single most important question about losing weight

My biggest obstacle to losing weight is eating out, why is it that socialising always includes eating and drinking?

I try to eat sensibly and I mainly cook from fresh when I'm at home but eating out you have little control although I have noticed a few restaurants have started to put calorie or fat content on their menus as do Pret A Manger on their sandwich labels and lunch meals which is good..so things are changing slowly.

Re: Your single most important question about losing weight

The single most important question about losing weight

Anyone wanting to lose weight, thinking about diets, or slimming clubs or gyms etc etc should first ask answer one question :

Have you given up sugar?

The answering of this question in the positive (Yes) should mean that you don't put sugar in tea/coffee, that you don't drink fizzy drinks or sugary squashes and cordials, that you don't drink fruit juices (apple, orange etc), that you don't eat 99% of the available breakfast cereals, that you read the nutritional labels of every product you buy to check for the carbohydrate-of which sugars content and that you understand how sugars are hidden in many foods.

If the answer to the question is No, then pretty much any action you plan to take is an utter waste of time.

Sugar is responsible for messing with the brain and the body's various systems. It makes you falsely think a food is great when actually it's just the sugar triggering pleasure receptors. It makes your body feel hungry when in fact it isn't hungry at all and doesn't need any more food which leads to over-eating and snacking.

If you haven't first given up sugar properly, then you are never going to be able to lose weight and keep it off.
