I'd have thought it was a bit greasy to use for that but I may be wrong of course.

I saw on YouTube that you can use it to polish light scratches off you cars bodywork and to clean misty patches off plastic headlight covers. Not tried it though.

Wouldn't risk it on a carpet. It is great for pain relief in creaky knees though!

I have used WD for many things but have never tried it on a carpet. Sorry!

I used WD40 on what was then a brand-new car to remove road tar from the bodywork .....

I approached the task with great trepidation but no problems were encountered and my car was like new again .....

10 Clever Uses for WD40

https://www.weekendnotes.com/10-clever-uses-for-wd40/

Remove carpet stains: If regular carpet cleaner won't shift stubborn stains from your carpet, spray the stain with WD-40. Wait a minute or two, then use your regular cleaner, or warm soapy water. The stain will disappear. If it's an old stain, you may have to repeat.
51 Amazing Uses for WD-40

https://www.rd.com/home/cleaning-org...ses-for-wd-40/

Don’t let ink or other stains ruin your fine carpet. Spray the stain with WD-40, wait a minute or two, and then use your regular carpet cleaner or gently cleanse with a sponge and warm, soapy water. Continue until the stain is completely gone.
I'd try WD40 on an old rug first, then on a "hidden" piece of your carpet before attacking the stain .....
