Cream slice I found one in back of the freezer and it's defrosting nicely.

Our daughter puts a skewer through the length of the potato before it goes into the oven. She says the metal heats up, transfers heat to the inside of the potato and this helps to speed up cooking time.

I don't have a microwave - I just put them back into the oven for 15 minutes and they were lovely with butter, onions and grated mature cheddar.

Wrap and cook 'em in tin foil and then remove the foil for the last 15mins or so to harden the skins

I covered mine in a little olive oil and salt before cooking; I also stab them a few times with a sharp knife.

I think it was because I was cooking two instead of the normal one, even though they were a bit smaller. The skins were nice and crispy.

Yes I do that too Mart... I fully cook mine in the m/wave, about 5/6 mins each side, then brown/crisp it off under the grill with whatever I'm grilling.

I do the same

also .... why do they have to be big? Two medium sized pots each if preferable in my house.

Re: I baked my potatoes for 55 minutes yet they were still hard inside

All this talk of baked potatoes reminded me that there was a large potato in the cupboard that was starting give off shoots and needed using up. I cooked it in the microwave and then put in the oven for 25 minutes to get the skin crispy ..along with some Lincolnshire sausages.

Mustard on the sausages with butter and mustard pressed into the baked potato. The third item was baked beans. I enjoyed me dinner very much.
