Re: Does it matter?

Looking at it a different way round, I didn't like John Lennon alive or dead, because of the way he behaved, even though he didn't commit crimes and I wouldn't listen to his music now. I can't understand how people revere his work.
I don't know really what I found was so repulsive about him which is weird!

Re: Does it matter?

While I may stop liking the person their work is not changed so if I liked it before I would still like it. If I didn't I would wonder if I really liked it previously or if I had allowed my like of the person to cloud my judgement. So far that has only happened with 2 people Gary Glitter and Michael Jackson.

I agree Julie 1962. I Used to like the work of Augustus John until I read that he expected even his youngest models to have sex with him. So did I really like it ?
The trouble with geniuses (and I'm not including the likes of Saville or Rolf Harris ) is that they're very often not nice people . You can admire the work whilst appreciating they may have been total wasters in real life.

well he was a very self-centred man always wanting to be the boss

if you read the bio by his wife cynthia titled JOHN you will discover that he was not adverse to physical violence with her

Re: Does it matter?

If somebody has a talent and you appreciate their work, why should any other part of their life change your opinions of that work. Their talent still exists even if they have committed murder or molested children.
If a gourmet chef had cooked you and your guests a fantastic meal, would you refuse to eat it because he beats his wife?
We all make mistakes in life but it shouldn't reflect on what we do well!

So why isn't Rolf's portrait of the queen still hanging up?

Sorry had to laugh at that one Twink - molesting children and murder - hardly making a mistake
Like I said if others can take it then so be it - I definitely couldn't

Sorry Patsy, poor wording, but I couldn't say we all commit crimes, as most of us don't, and I don't want to be sued for slander.
