Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine the much respected actor has died at the age of 95.

The Oscar winning actor enjoyed his career for over sixty years.

His films included,
From Here to Eternity as Staff Sergeant James R. "Fatso" Judson.
Marty in the Title role
The Vikings, as Ragnar
The Flight of the Phoenix, as Trucker Cobb
The Dirty Dozen, as Major General Worden
Ice Station Zebra, as Boris Vaslov
The Wild Bunch, as Dutch Engstrom
The Poseidon Adventure, as Detective Lieutenant Mike Rogo

He also had various Television roles including appearing in the series McHales Navy and Airwolf. I last saw him in a cameo role for an episode of the Tim Allen comedy series, Home Improvement.

RIP Ernie.
Thats a wrap. Time for a break.

Re: Ernest Borgnine

Another sad day for the acting industry. A good, dependable and well respected character actor.
RIP Ernest.

Re: Ernest Borgnine

I liked Ernest, unless he played the bad guy as in Bad Day at Black Rock against Spencer Tracy's one armed hero...

Seriously though, a great actor and apparently a nice guy with it.

RIP Ernest...

I think EB was a good actor, he was not 'flashy' or particularly recognised.

I like his portrayal of 'Marty' in particular, it gave food for thought and acknowledged that looks aren't everything

I'm sad to hear this as I greatly enjoyed his films as well, and he did look like he'd be a lovely man in real life. Not a bad age, as Shaz says.

Re: Ernest Borgnine

Considering he had five wives( including the fearsome Ethel Merman, which only lasted for 38 days), the old boy did rather well. Remember him well in one of my favourite movies, the Wild Bunch. Also made a great baddie in From Here To Eternity and Bad Day at Black Rock. Certainly not the greatest of lookers, but to get to 95 showed he had what it took. RIP me old mate.

Re: Ernest Borgnine

I too liked Ernest Borgnine - he had a nice smile and a twinkle in his eye. I enjoyed his films and thought he was an excellent actor. 95 years is a very good age. I might be the odd one out, but I thought Ernest Borgnine was quite handsome in a well worn rugged sort of way. Stay in peace, Ernest.
