Couldn't the government make quotas for courses so there is a balance for jobs in need of graduates ?
The answer to that is they pay for their degrees so they can do whatever they want. When adulation was free we could stipulate what was taught, but make the student a customer they have customers rights.

I think it's a good deal.

Go to university for 3 or 4 years on a Mickey Mouse degree, receive a grant and have a good time, leave and get a job at McDonald's or, alternatively, go on the dole.

No need to pay back the grant.

But they need to PASS each year to carry on.

Also a 1.1 a mark a student could get on a normal Degree.

I could be wrong but as far as I remember the scoring system was
1 (First Class)
1.1
1.2
2
2.1
2.2
3
Pass
Fail

Different from what I am aware of:

1 (First class honours)
2.1 (Upper second class honours)
2.2 (Lower second class honours)
3. (Third class honours)
Ordinary degree (no honours)
Fail

I've never heard of a 1.1 or a 1.2

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britis...classification

Interestingly, when I was at university, first class honours went to around 6% of graduates. Look what has happened since!:

Class 1995 2000 2005 2010 2015
1st 7.0% 8.2% 11.6% 14.4% 22.0%
2:1 40.3% 42.9% 47.4% 48.3% 49.5%
2:2 34.8% 34.0% 33.1% 29.8% 23.0%
3rd 5.8% 5.3% 8.0% 7.5% 5.5%
Pass 11.7% 9.6%
Other 0.3% – – – –

'Dumbing down'. In my opinion, this change has devalued the honours classification system. Logically, if this continues, everyone will be coming out with a first!

Hi

I have now decided that it is pointless to worry.

The river fishing season opens in two days.

Time to get out and commune with nature.

I am looking forward to seeing the Kingfishers flashing by, far more interesting.

Re: Brexit, what a mess we are in.

Thanks for clarifying.

Its just a certificate at the end of the day.
It's still more about the person.

However, it is a good idea to have some kind of grading system.
Some might argue we should not be graded at all.

I did! Hahahaha!

And that was in the days when only about 6% of graduates got a first.

Actually, there were only six of us out of a total intake of over a hundred.

They get loans though that don't get paid back unless they earn a certain amount which rarely seems to happen it seems.
