I get two occupational pensions, my OAP, and I've recently had my winter heating allowance. So although £10 is nice, I don't really need it
I've just come back from doing a bit of shopping in the town centre. I bought a 'Big Issue'; and there were collections for a local hospice, and a local children's charity. That's where my bonus went, to people who would probably appreciate it more than I would.
I wondered when the Xmas bonus was introduced, It seems that -
In 1972, then prime minister Ted Heath introduced a £10 Christmas bonus for pensioners. It was worth £98 in today's money and was considerably more than the £6.75 a week basic state pension that pensioners of the time received.
