Putting Salt in Beer

Hi

I have two friends of friends staying tonight, Eastern European.

Just sat down for a beer and they have both put salt in it to get rid of the bubbles.

It is a very strong beer, 12% Alcohol.

Have you heard of this before?

It is a new one on me.

Re: Putting Salt in Beer

Never heard of this before .. sounds vile but a quick google says it's supposed to improve the flavour and get rid of any gassiness by making the bubbles fizz to the top and improve it's foamy head.

Sounds like a chemistry lesson.

Not heard of salt in beer, but have seen people put ground pepper in Vodka, to soak up the impurities in it.

Re: Putting Salt in Beer

Does adding the salt or even the pepper in the alcohol lessen the chance of a hangover? years ago Trophy bitter on its own would give me a terrible hangover even on a couple of pints but if I drank it as a split with brown ale I could drink that all night with no problems.
