Government funding

The scumbag 'nasty party' keep telling us there is no money to ease 'austerity' or to pay above the 1% pay increase to government employees, yet they seem to have reserves of funds for this scheme, in addition to the £billions to be paid to EDF and the Chinese for nuclear reactor now being built at Hinckley Point.

With thousands of children and pensioners in abject poverty, isn't such profligacy with 'our' money not just a tragedy, but despicable!!!

Re: Government funding

We need to update our nuclear power plants or will run out of power for both rich and poor in a handful of years. We are not doing enough at all to safeguard that. But then of course we are pointlessly wasting all time effort and funds on brexit.

Hi

Yes, well thought out UJ, we simply turn the lights off and go on a 3 day week because we have no electricity.

Re: Government funding

I may be going mad but don't private companies make the money out of these things ? So why do tax payers build them. Forget the either or of help the poor or no electric and think about it a bit more. Unless of course they are building them so we all get cost price electric or pay less tax because profits go back to government.

Hi

The power stations were sold, the Nuclear ones by the then Labour Government, for £12.5 Billion.

They are now owned y the EDF, which is owned by the French Government.

EDF and the Chinese Government are funding the cost of the new power station.

We are paying a mint for the electricity it will produce.
