What Class Are You?

Has anyone completed the "The Great British class calculator" to see which class you now belong to? - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22000973
According to the sociologists who created the new categories, we all fit in to one of 7 classes.

How are the mighty fallen in our case. If I had done the questionnaire 10 years ago when both I and Terry were still working, we would have been "Established Middle Class" - 10 years on, Terry can't work through her disabilities and I'm retired and we are now mere "Emergent Service Workers" - the shame..... the shame............

Personally I still think there are only two important classes - the ultra rich and the rest of us!

Definitely not Would make no difference to 'my' life or yours to consider what class we are... Who gives a fig - so called 'upper class' are as 'common' as any man, just keen on pronouncing the F word correctly - is all.....

Did the class calculator test on another forum and was a bit surprised, although pleasantly, with the result!

Re: What Class Are You?

I saw this a little while ago and took the test. I have re-visited it and done it again (about 6 more times) because I was a bit surprised at how it came out and wanted to see if by tweeking the bits about passtimes and who we know would make it come out with a substantially different result.
There are only five smallish sections in the test and surely this can't provide enough information to define us one way or another. Maybe much of it hinges on the answers given in the first section. I also wonder if our age figures into how we answer the questions as well. Whatever, I don't think I would feel comfortable disclosing what category I got put into.

Just completed it and came out as elite which I find highly amusing. We are not ultra rich and neither of us has a univeristy degree. The questions are based solely on socialisation and income - both of which can be acquired; class, from breeding, on the other hand, can't and how we conduct ourselves and relate to others is a truer sign of class than anything else. That doesn't suit the purposes of that type of quiz though.

I tend to agree with you Mick - there are only really two classes: the landed gentry and the rest of us and, imo, that's about it really - and I don't have much time for the landed gentry either.

Re: What Class Are You?

Is'nt it a site for the goverment just to find out more about us ? They just want to see if they can squeeze a little more out of us all. I have not looked at it and I really dont care what class Im in, its just for the rich to feel better about them selves and the poor to feel worse....
