Re: Brexit Again

Promises were made during the campaign by people who had no way of carrying them out afterwards.
This government now has to make good those promises which it had no hand in making.
What I find really worrying is the secretive way in which negotiations are to be done.
What don't they want us to know about and are they negotiating with those promises in mind or something entirely different?

I agree. It is difficult to be sure and to trust our politicians. There have been so many examples of such problems in the past.

Perhaps I have been watching too much Yes Minister!

Thank God for that.

I'm hoping that May delivers what the majority of people want. If not, I hope that Nigel is prepared to come back and fight for the cause.

Re: Brexit Again

Hi

Well the EU have appointed their staff and their office will be up and running from the 1st of October.

It wasn't a problem for them, they have loads of experts already working for them.

There are two sets of negotiators we will have to deal with, EU Commission and The EU Parliament.

Any deal we come to will have then to be approved by the Heads of State.

We are not as far advanced, whilst Australia have offered to lend us some Trade Negotiators, they are not experts in the type of goods and services we export.

We have been unable to appoint from the applicants we have had, so we are now headhunting globally.

Nigel Farage has criticised Junckers choice of lead negotiator, who is a complete EU Federalist, and he has also criticised some of the financial claims made by Boris and Co as unattainable.

France and Germany both have elections next year, and if there is a change of leadership, their negotiating stance will change.

All interesting stuff.

If we are going to all this trouble to negotiate with the EU, and two separate bodies at that, why shouldn't we also be negotiating with non-EU countries?

Why? Because the EU won't let us! Unbelievable.

Hi

Stuff the EU, we can just ignore them.

There are more pedantic reasons.

First we have to get our seat back on the WTO, which will be next year before they meet again.

Secondly, many other countries are waiting to see what the outcome of our deal with the EU is.

That will affect the deals we do with them.

This is particularly relevant if we do not have access to the single market and whether or not we come out of the EU Customs Union.

The latter is very important, that will affect whether or not dual tariffs are imposed on some of our major exports.

Re: Brexit Again

The EU could be compared to a spider's web. Once you're in, you're in for good.

We should have left long ago when it evolved from a free-trade organisation into a political dictatorship.
