France to cancel Calais Border Controls

Hi

The firm favourite to win next year's French Presidential Elections has committed to end the Calais agreement if he wins.

Fine, let him.

France has no GCHQ, we supply with them with all the intercepts and Intelligence.

They move the Border Controls, we charge them if they still want the intercepts and Intelligence.

We will be Quids in, all we need is the Political will to make this perfectly clear.

NO...France has the DGSE

note:
The DGSE is considered one of the world's most respected intelligence agencies, especially in regards to economic intelligence.[3]

I don't think they will be interested in your help thanks.
But I do wish the LeTouquet agreement is stopped. It doesn't pay to be helpful to the UK...they kick you in the teeth and blame you for helping to keep the dreaded immigrant for their shores.

Isn't it normal these days for most people to be checked before they board rather than at point of destination ? I'm sure that's what friends who travel have said, it means less fuss at the end of the journey.

Hi

Really?

The DGSE is good, but they are the External Agency, not the Internal Security Agency.

The French Intelligence Services are a joke, they don't talk to each other, they have no common computer system which allows immediate access to all databases.

You are entitled to your opinion Flicker, unfortunately your opinion is not one shared by the French Government.

Yes, as I've said before, I see no reason why we should not pass the responsibility for checking identity to the ferry operators.

I can't believe that they let just anyone on board: certainly, they must want to see a ticket. Why, then, shouldn't they be obliged to check passports too. If the authorities cannot trust the ferry operators' own employees to be sufficiently qualified to check correctly, customs and excise officers could travel on the ferries to check passports upon boarding. If they are potential illegal immigrants, they are not allowed to board.

I wonder on what grounds the French could object to that.

I can only assume that the French see that palming off illegal immigrants to us - or even encouraging them to come here - is preferable (and easier or cheaper) to denying them entry into their own country at their borders with Italy and Spain, for example.

Some East European countries have successfully closed their borders using fences where necessary, so it must be possible for France to do the same if they want to.

Another option available to us, which has not been mentioned, is to avoid Calais and other French ports and opt for others such as Zeebrugge or Rotterdam. We could close the Channel Tunnel too. I believe that such actions would soon make the French change their minds.

Hi

Simple, it is still controls in France, their territorial waters, no rights for our staff to operate there.

The illegals sneak in hidden in vehicles, even with our Border Force checking them before boarding in France, many get through.

They do not buy tickets and then board the Ferries.

At the moment, they stay in France if found, if the Border is moved and we leave the EU then they are ours, we cannot send them back to France.

Would the French stop the ferry companies checking tickets whilst still in their territorial waters?

So why would they want to stop them checking passports, if not to attempt to offload their problem people on to us?

I still think that if the French continue to encourage illegal immigrants to travel to Britain, we should no longer use their ports and travel to and from Belgium and Holland, as I mentioned.

Similarly, all cars and lorries should be searched when they are boarding the ferries. If that takes a long time and delays passage, so be it.

As I have said in the past, I wouldn't trust the French as far as I could spit.

Another solution that occurs to me is to search all vehicles on the ferries before they are allowed to disembark. The Frogs couldn't object to that, as it would be in our own territorial waters. Any vehicles carrying illegal immigrants would be denied permission to leave the ferry and the ferry owners told to turn around and leave. Where they go next is their problem.
